Florida and the death penalty

When the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Florida’s capital sentencing regime on Tuesday, the justices chose not to address another quirky aspect of the state’s death penalty: the non-unanimous jury rule. More than 10 percent of prisoners currently on Florida’s death row were sent there with the support of only seven out of 12 jurors. TMP’s Maurice Chammah brings us the story.
