Criminal Justice Reform Is Quickly Running Out Of Time

There is “no chance” the Senate will take up pending bipartisan criminal justice legislation before Christmas, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) says. That means the sentencing reform measure won’t be debated until January at the earliest, just weeks before the start of the presidential primary season. Complicating the already complicated political hue over the measure is the continued strength of Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, who appears to have pulled fellow candidates to the right on many issues, including criminal justice.
