Back to trial for Albert Woodfox, the last surviving member of the “Angola 3”

A divided federal appeals court Monday concluded that Woodfox may be retried again for a Louisiana prison murder authorities say he committed in 1972. Since then, he’s spent more than 40 years in solitary confinement. His two previous convictions were overturned, and most of the witnesses for and against him are dead or unavailable — but his case presented no “exceptional circumstances,” the court’s majority concluded.
