Longmire Is Filming in New Mexico—and Needs Native American Actors

Longmire, the popular crime series set in the fictional Absaroka County, Wyoming, has begun filming its much-celebrated fourth season in Santa Fe, Las Vegas (NM), and other north New Mexico locations. Last year, Longmire was canceled after three successful seasons by the A&E network, leaving fans despondent, until Netflix stepped in and agreed to produce a new season.

The show has a large following among Native American viewers at least in part due to the presence of Natives in the cast and Native plotlines. Sheriff Walt Longmire's turf bumps up against an Indian Reservation, and he regularly interacts with Tribal police and a Native-owned casino. Consequently, the show has brought Native actors such as Zahn McClarnon, Graham Greene, and A Martinez onto TV screens during prime time hours.
