Recently, 24 joint reports were submitted to the United Nations Universal Periodic Review process. These reports, with wide involvement from member organizations, detail a sweeping range of human rights violations in the United States and make recommendations on changes needed from the U.S. Government in order to repair respect for these fundamental rights.
Included is an overarching report submitted by the USHRN UPR Planning Committee, laying out the existing human rights frameworks in the U.S. as well as the lack of a coordinating authority or other adequate mechanisms to ensure compliance; detailing the range of human rights violations in the U.S. with numerous specific examples; and making recommendations on how the U.S. can better meet international human rights standards and live up to its treaty obligations.
