Lynne Stewart Update

December 11, 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters of Lynne Stewart,

In a stinging decision, on November 17 the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Judge Koeltl to re-sentence Lynne. She is now facing a re-sentencing hearing in April 2010-just four months from now. Our purpose as her defense committee is to do everything in our power to retain Lynne’s 28-month sentence. Although we don’t want her to serve any prison time at all, the reality is that Lynne may now face many more than the 28 months that she was originally sentence to serve.

We are writing to request your financial and political support for Lynne Stewart. Private donations are desperately needed to ensure the survival of the defense committee. These funds will be used to maintain the website, send out updates and reports, receive letters to the Judge on Lynne’s behalf, work closely with Lynne’s attorneys, and build support for court appearances. Equally important, they will go toward commissary and reading materials for Lynne.

Lynne is now 70 years old. If any significant time is added to her sentence, it could mean that she will die in prison.

Write to Lynne Stewart, Reg. # 53504-054, MCC/NY, 150 Park Row, New York, NY 10007. Do not send stamps, as the mail will be treated as contraband and discarded, and do not send anything that requires a signature for delivery. Lynne has been given a subscription to the New York Times and the New Yorker. If you would like to subscribe Lynne to a publication please drop us a line first (email info@lynnestewart.org) to make sure that you are not duplicating someone else's contribution. Photos, cards, postcards and letters are fine, but remember that all mail is opened and read.

Thank you for your support for Lynne. It means the world to her.
