It's that time of year again, and with finances tight for parents and post secondary students, I just want to do my part by coordinating a School Supplies Drive here in East Van. You can help too!

The Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre and KAYA (Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association) has joined me in this venture. The Capilano Student Union is meeting to discuss how they can help.

Activism comes in many forms and this is especially meaningful as I remember struggling when my children were young and also as a post secondary student. So far I have recieved a $50 gift card and a $40 donation plus other items. Two families have called so far that need items.

Helping parents and post secondary students.

Donate or purchase items for all ages elementary to post secondary

PLEASE HELP BY DONATING: Backpacks, binders, pens, pencils, lined paper, highlighters, index cards, dictionaries, gym bags, and other supplies for students of all ages.

You can help in many ways:

1) Donating your no longer needed items
2) Purchasing a few items
3) Doing your own collection from friends and bringing them to one of the locations
4) Making out a check or money order to the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center re: School Supply Drive. Donations of $20 or more will recieve a tax receipt.

Drop Off Locations:

Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre, 1607 East Hastings, or to KAYA: 1771 East Hastings during office hours.

Drop off items until September 18.

For further info or for pick up for the homebound: Leave message for Kat at VAFC: (604) 251-4844 Ext 308.

I've started a Facebook group where post secondary students can buy, sell and trade books and other items needed for courses.
