Shout Out to NH and Surrounding Area

Transmitted on behalf of the Leonard Peltier Defense Offense
Committee

August 10, 2009

We have learned Obama will be in Portsmouth tomorrow, and even though it is short notice, there is time to get the word out to our respective networks in the New Hampshire and the surrounding area.

Obama Town Hall Meeting
Portsmouth High School
Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Tuesday, August 11th, 2009 @1 PM

We would like to ask [you to] poster in support of Peltier, to line the route for Obama's arrival and display it prominently. Tomorrow is the 31st anniversary of the passage of the "1978 American Indian Religious Freedom Act", and still we are faced with arrests for having eagle feathers, carrying on the tradition of being fan makers or having to ask permission to hold ceremonies. The struggle for religious freedom still carries on in public institutions, such as, schools and prisons. So after 31 years we are still fighting for our rights, while Leonard has been fighting 33 years for justice.

Although, he was recently granted a parole hearing, no word has been received. We expect to hear something no later than the 20th of August. Whether or not parole is granted, we still need to keep the pressure on for presidential clemency.

This is why Leonard needs your support by reminding Obama to grant mercy to a six-time Nobel prize nominee, humanitarian/artist and grandfather. Wherever Obama appears, we need people to be there to remind him of the support.

Always remember to conduct yourself in a respect[ful] manner in representing Leonard. This is an important time for him and we want to keep it peaceful and civil. And above all, enjoy yourself in what you are doing. Both Leonard and the Committee appreciate your continued support. Thank you.

In Spirit,

Ben Carnes
