INNOCENT MAN

INNOCENT MAN
(Song for Leonard Peltier)

the spirit of Crazy Horse
races boldly across the plains
to where sacred Black Hills were stolen for their gold
by a trail of broken U.S. treaties then defaced
later police backed goon squads terrorized Pine Ridge
and two treasury agents were killed, at Jumping Bull, by unknown hands
then looking for vengeance, to protect the guilty, the law
framed an innocent man

so he sits there, locked in an iron cage
an eagle aching to spread his wings
decades in prison, an injustice that must end
the legend but a man, longing to be free

the spirit of Crazy Horse
unleashes winds across the land
calling out from Little Big Horn and Wounded Knee to
free an innocent man

so he sits there, locked in an iron cage
an eagle aching to spread his wings
decades in prison, an injustice that must end
the legend but a man, longing to be free
...

longing to be free
